SunClean" self-cleaning glass by PPG makes it easier to enjoy your new windows. How? By making it easier to do something you probably don't like about windows — washing them.

[How does it work?]
While the windows with SunCfean self-cleaning glass look slightly brighter from the outside, they look like ordinary windows from the inside. But looks can be deceiving: SunCfean self-cleaning glass has a durable, transparent coating that's bonded to the outer surface of the glass during the glass manufacturing process.

The coating utilizes two natural resources — the sun's ultraviolet rays and water — to slowly decompose and loosen organic dirt and then rinse it away. This two-part action is why SunClean self-cleaning gloss is easier to clean. Let's take a look...

Photocatalytic Process
In the photocatalytic process, UV light from the sun energizes the Suntlean self-cleaning glass to help slowly break down and loosen dirt and other organic material. Since UV light is abundant even on cloudy days or in shaded areas, this process works non-stop throughout the day.

Hydrophilic Process
The coating's hydrophilic property makes water droplets spread out, or sheet, across the surface of the glass. Because of this, when rain or a light spray of water hits the window, the water helps to more effectively rinse away loosened dirt. This sheeting action, which works throughout the day and night, helps the window dry quickly with minimal spotting and streaking.

Durability is a very important attribute of all PPG glass technologies. So you can be sure we put SunClean- self-cleaning glass through a tough series of tests to make sure it can stand up to the kind of torture that Mother Nature dishes out all year lonrq.

[How tough is it?]
At PPG, we've been perfecting the practice of putting microscopic coatings on glass since the early '80s. The technology we use to moke SunClean self-cleaning glass is the same technology used to make our popular Sungate low-e glass and Solarcool"reflective glass.

But we weren't willing to stake our reputation — or your money — on past successes. So we retained an independent loborotory to subject SunClean self-cleaning glass to 90 days of continuous extreme weather conditions.

The results confirmed our own internal testing results. After 90 days of continuous heat (180°F), continuous cold (-20°F— even in Minnesota it doesn't stay that cold that long) and continuous salt spray (a 60 m.p.h. torrent of salt water) the self-cleaning properties of the SunClean glass samples were just as effective as before the tests.
